Veg-WHAT?
This post will be longer than usual. Sorry, sometime it’s necessary to go deeper!
I tried anyway to remain clear and concise. I hope you enjoy it and I really would love to know your thoughts about this topic. I think it’s a complex one and every opinion is enriching and add a nuance to the topic.
The term vegan has become a widely used label, often exploited by the food industry. While it is undeniable that has sparked the creation of brands and products that cater to vegan preferences, not all vegan products align with sustainable or health-conscious practices.
The label of veganism carries various connotations that can either attract or deter individuals, creating a divide between those who identify with it and those who do not.
The goal should be to make choices based on personal needs and circumstances without being confined by labels. It's crucial to have the freedom to decide what is best for oneself and the planet at any given moment.
Imagining a scenario where we recognize the unsustainability of daily meat consumption and instead opt for ethically sourced animal products underscores the importance of mindful decision-making regarding food choices.
We understand and agree that, in this historical moment, eating daily meat or any animal produce is not the smartest solution.
If we choose to eat meat once in a while, it should be from:
animals that are free to chew grass and nothing else;
their death is dignified and celebrated as it was in the past;
it’s from a farm that’s sustainably managed, meaning that its work doesn’t cause any environmental issues and workers’ conditions are decent;
it didn’t travelled large distances;
it’s not packaged in plastic.
I wish that we’d all agree about the fact that under almost no circumstance would we purchase or eat animal products coming from industrial farms.
I wish that we all understand that those humans who decided to suppress any animal produce from their life are strongly to be admired and supported. They took an important position, and we should all support and thank them because with their complete abstention they are doing so much for the animals, the planet, and for ourselves.
I ate vegan for a long time, but then I felt like I needed to eat meat, fish, and eggs again. Of course, I’m very careful about the source, and I must admit that unfortunately, it’s very difficult with fish. As you know, being imperfect is my lifestyle, so once per week I eat animal products. Maybe in a few months, I won’t eat them anymore, who knows!
In essence, the key is to respect and support individuals who choose to abstain from animal products entirely while recognizing that personal dietary choices may evolve over time.
Embracing imperfection and being open to change is essential for personal growth and well-being.
